Mustang & Wildlife Sanctuaries

Engler Canyon Ranch

Since opening its gates in 2017, Serengeti’s Engler Canyon Ranch has become the permanent home to 187 high-risk, wild-born mustangs, burros, and bonded family members.

Our respectful, hands-off approach allows these mustangs to decompress and heal from the traumas of capture in a natural and dynamic herd setting. Our rolling hills, short grass prairie, and forested draws provide the perfect blend of wide-open spaces, natural protection, and re-wilded living on 14,000 (and growing!) acres, all within the safety of our sanctuary borders.

Though our sanctuary protects nearly 30,000-acres, nearly half isn't yet safe for mustangs. We're working to change that. Donations are used to care for our herd, maintain and install our evergrowing fencelines, improve water and forage access, keep emergency hay, and make sanctuary improvements that benefit the herd. Donations are tax-deductible, and every dollar goes directly to the herd!

Disappointment Valley Mustang Ranch

Our original wild horse refuge, Disappointment Valley Mustang Sanctuary, is home to 33 mustangs. The herd is primarily made up of seniors from the Spring Creek Basin HMA, which borders our sanctuary. The rugged beauty of this location is astounding, though it requires a higher level of support. Supplemental feed, and at times, water, is required due to the exceptionally dry region and salty soil, in addition to ongoing creek and land reclamation work.

Your donation helps to provide year-round hay, land & creek work, and maintenance to our water catchment system. Every dollar donated goes directly to the herd. Thank you for your support!

Wildlife Sanctuaries & Habitat Preserves

Protecting land and vulnerable ecosystems is a top priority for the Serengeti Foundation. We are the proud protectors of more than 45,000 acres across the US and have welcomed more than 280 hooves animals into permenant sanctuary.

The Parker Project

In rural areas with limited resources, hundreds of thousands of puppies and kittens are born into a world unfit to care for them. Most pass away from the elements, predators, and diseases.

To address this sad fate, we created The Parker Project.

Every week, a veterinary team along with The Parker Project’s mobile surgical unit visit rural and disadvantaged communities to provide completely free veterinary services.

By spaying, neutering, and vaccinating both loved and homeless animals, we are helping animals that the community may not be able to care for.

Volunteers are always welcome! Find out more about the Parker Project.

Other Incredible Projects That Serengeti Is Proud To Support

Elephant Nature Park - Thailand

Since its establishment more than 20 years ago, the Elephant Nature Park has provided refuge and support for Asian elephants and animals in need while providing an influential example of more ethical tourism models. The Serengeti Foundation is a proud supporter of their work and the donor of the land used by the Elephant Nature Park.

An elephant orphan in care at the Sheldrick Wildlife Trust

Sheldrick Wildlife Trust - Africa

Starting more than 45 years ago as an elephant orphanage, The Sheldrick Wildlife Trust has grown into a multi-faceted global force protecting animals and the environment in Kenya. And their orphanage program continues to thrive!

We are proud to help support the brave endeavors of the Sheldrick Wildlife Trust's anti-poaching team and fully applaud their animal care and habitat initiatives. The Serengeti Foundation has also provided financial support to dig two water wells in the remote, dry areas of the parks to reduce human-animal conflicts.

Please support their work.
