It’s been a stressful June for millions of living creatures. The extreme drought that has stretched across our region coupled with dry winds and unpredictable wind gusts have created forest fires that have yet to be contained. As of this morning, the 416 fire is measured at over 22,000 acres. Twenty-two thousand acres! Our wild horse project in SW Colorado, Disappointment Valley Mustang Sanctuary, neighbors this fire. Thankfully, our herd and land are currently safe as we found ourselves on the favorable side of the wind.

Engler Canyon Ranch has had its fire scares too. We recently had our fourth nearby wildfire for 2018, though fire crews were able to contain the blazes to relatively small areas.
With the increasing drought, decreasing rain, lack of snow and parched conditions, the risk of fires remains high! Please be vigilant, report new smoke plumes and dispose of cigarettes responsibility.
